The Stolen Hours by Allen Eskens

4.0

This took me over 20 chapters to actually get into it, as initially, while it is mildly interesting, it also wasn’t any different from other serial killer reads. Until it … sort of was. I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll say there’s a little twist that makes it different and keeps it interesting.

The FMC who completely stood up for herself and confronted her bully in front of his boss was pretty amazing too—so while it did have a slow start, and was predictable, it still was redeeming, IMO. And I loved the side of drama.

The following list may be your idea of tropes, or you may find tr!ggers here—obviously, you do you. And I’m sure I’ve forgotten some so don’t rely on this as a complete list.

Talk of SA.
Hatred of women.
Harming people.
“Roofie” drugs.
Badass female lead with past trauma.
Self harm.

Manages to cross both ‘police procedural’ with ‘cozy’ and it’s lots of fun, and very satisfying.
Overall: based on this, I’d read more by this author. 4 stars.
