This one was one of the hardest-hitting books I read this year, and it was an emotional roller coaster the whole time. In the beginning, we see this carefree friend group living out their college dreams and living their life to the fullest until they run into Cooper and his team at a bar one night, and everything changes. So Cooper and Carysis have a long past. They grew up together. He was always close to her and her family. Their parents even end up married, so the families end up united. But she ends up going to school across the country not just because of him but also to try and figure out who she is without her family, and she just goes through so much. We see how connected their family is, too, and get why this might be a road they don't want to travel down at all, but it's a constant pull between them. We even get flashbacks to see how long and intense it has been between them. This one does end on a cliffhanger, too.
