This is such a compelling read - a fleshed-out world, complex characters, interesting plot, etc all intertwined with elements of Ojibwe culture. Daunis is a cool, endearing protagonist, and it's hard not to root for her immediately. Each of the supporting characters also felt like well-rounded, whole people for the most part. I loved the way that Ojibwe traditions/culture/ways of thinking were crucial to each step of the mystery unfolding, and how it taught Daunis to rely on her community just as much as she was trying to help them. The mystery was a little bit predictable, but I didn't mind much - the romance on the other hand was pretty eye-roll-y and I was glad to see where they stood at the end of the book. I will say I didn't expect some of the darker plot points (sexual assault, kidnapping, etc), so I'd definitely recommend reading content warnings ahead of time.
