Living Queer History: Remembrance and Belonging in a Southern City by Gregory Samantha Rosenthal

5.0

this was an absolute delight to read and i’m so sad about the lack of attention this book has received!! maybe it just hits a delightful niche perfectly for me, but it’s a really well-crafted mix of history, theory, and memoir. it’s about creating community and intersectionality and failure and growth, it’s personal while also forging connections with larger spaces and groups. the first bits of history felt a little dry, but that’s genuinely my only critique. really thoughtful, reflective, AND not afraid to admit to past missteps, which is an essential lesson for people working in queer spaces, especially white people. i ended up using this as a reference in an essay when i just picked it up for leisure because i loved so much of what it had to say. will be looking out to pick up a copy of this for sure!
