The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
5.0
Would recommend: Definitely yes
So, I picked up this book from the library on Monday, and I finished it on Tuesday night. I just could not put it down. Darn you, end-of-chapter hooks! This is one of the most compelling and downright exciting books I've read in a long time, and it helps me remember what I love about youth fiction. Suzanne Collins did a great job in describing just enough to paint a picture but also pique the imagination to fill in the blanks. I found myself alternately catching my breath and on the verge of tears, and I hardly ever cry at books.
I'm considering suggesting it to my book club because there is so much to think about in terms of being in a media-centric society and how teens react to it. This book still has me thinking.

3/27/09 edit: I led a book club discussion on this book, and everyone at least liked it, if not loved it. Our conversation was pretty lively, so I call that a success, especially for our first YA selection.
