Boulder by Eva Baltasar

4.0

Boulder is a queer love story. A chef on a merchant ship meets a woman while temporarily disembarking and they fall in love. Surprising herself by leaving the nomadic, untethered life behind, Boulder agrees to move with her lover to Iceland and settle down. After nearly a decade together, her partner announces that she wants to have a baby and become a mother. “I don’t tell her that what I want is to not be a mother.” This book is brief, gut wrenching and beautifully written / translated from the author’s native language of Spanish. It examines the roles we play for each other and the ways in which we adapt to meet the needs and expectations of those we love, and what happens when we want to take it all back.
