Not ashamed to say that this is my favourite book. I think I’ve read it around 6-7 times, maybe more. Yes, it’s not the most intellectual, nor written in a terribly refined style, and the plot is hardly complex- I don’t care, I love this book.
It’s essentially a just rollicking good read, with engaging and loveable characters and a good bit of treason, treachery, love, murder, and of course duelling, set in 1600s France. What more could you want?
I would definitely recommend The Three Musketeers to anyone wanting to read classics but not sure where to start, or worried they will be dense/uninteresting. It’s a great one to start with and will definitely make you want to read some of Dumas’ more literary works.
