Rise of the Evening Star by Brandon Mull
5.0
This middle grade series has a lot of spunk. Kendra and Seth are perfect opposites and that's what makes them the perfect pair. Their introduction to the magical preserve, managed by their grandparents and known as Fablehaven, happened last summer. Now, they are becoming more and more involved in the workings of the preserve. It's time they really start learning how to take care of themselves around creatures that have the potential to really harm them. This time three new characters are introduced- helpers around the preserve and all have something to teach Kendra and Seth. The most important lesson being who can truly be trusted with the welfare of Fablehaven. There is some serious action in this second installment. Lives are at stake and it's pretty descriptive for a middle grade book. It's just the right amount of action mixed with magic. Both boys and girls can love this series and if book 2 is any indication of how much more fun it's going to get, I think I'll keep reading.
