The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler
4.0
I liked the concept and the fact that it made me reminisce on the imagery of the film arrival.. I really liked the comparisons between neuronal connections and the octopi behavior. The AI theories were also super interesting to me. The whole human trafficking/kidnapping backstory to Eiko was gutwrenching too.
The only storyline that I found hard to follow and not as interesting was the hacker dude, Rustem. It was pretty bland and didn’t add that much until the very end for me.
The book ends suuuper abruptly too. I feel like the story was barely about to get hot when suddenly it was done. Maybe that was the point? To keep you thinking about what happened…. But this makes me think that maybe there was meant to be a sequel…?
