Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

5.0

The survivor of a family murder, Libby Day, questions her account of what happened that dark night 24 years ago. Libby is forced to relive the trauma of losing her mom and sisters. With her brother withering away in a jail cell charged with murdering his family; Libby rethinks whether her own flesh and blood was capable of committing such a heinous act. In this dark murder mystery, Gillian Flynn discusses grief, loss, healing, and family values all while taking her readers to DARK PLACES of their own.

This is the only Gillian Flynn novel Ive read. Ive seen the film adaptation of Gone Girl and have heard countless times how thrilling her writing is. She certainly lived up to the hype. I loved this book. It was the perfect murder mystery/ thriller type story that bored-lined horror. I absolutely loved all the gore and horror elements. The satanic ritualistic aspects did not seem forced but rather perfectly embedded within the narrative. Also, this plot was thick and well thought it. There were tons of characters and individual story arcs which all came perfectly together by novels end.
