This is a story about stories, but it's also so much more than that. It's a complex and dense tale about love and loss and growth and love again. About ancestry, family, and rising against tyranny. I was wholly engrossed from page one, transported from the smoke-filled kitchen to the inverted theater to the world ruled by the moon throne. Jimenez never loses the thread as he weaves the three concurrent stories together into a beautiful tapestry. The way it's written allows each character to feel so real. The atmosphere is so lush and vibrant as Keema and Jun journey across the dramatically fantastical landscape on their quest to bring an ancient goddess east. There is not a single part of this book that was a miss for me. I highly recommend giving it a shot because I think it's worth every second.
