A literary slasher horror, the best Stephen Graham Jones book I have read. I loved this. The characters, the slow build, the descriptions, the pace and the story, are all great. It is also amazingly referential and while you will love it if you know the references, it also doesn't distract you from enjoying it if you don't. I also loved that this was deeper than just a slasher. It was about the pain, loss of innocence, trauma and support from usual people to the main character. It was also a commentary on violence in families and a communities willingness to look away. But ultimately, you get all the slasher gore you want by the end of the story. And possibly the origin story for the next killer?
