This book was not what I expected, but I still enjoyed it.
This book is hardly about "witches" and more focuses on women in different time periods being treated horribly by society, more specifically men. It follows the story of a bloodline of women who are more attune to nature and the outside world. This leads to people inevitable taking advantage of them for these gifts.
Books like this are always hard to rate because it is hard to say you enjoyed reading about someone suffer. It breaks my heart so thoroughly to think that this is everyday life for so many women worldwide in the past, present, and future. It tackles very hard and real subjects of abuse and at times it was hard to read. It was a rollercoaster of emotions in every way. I went from screaming, crying, to cheering for these characters. I just wanted to wish all of them so well in life.
As someone with a very estranged relationship with the women in my life it hit very close to home.
That being said I think the only reason this wasn't a 5 star for me was because of the slow pace. It could be called "boring" at times and it is a heavy heart read. It definitely leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth about how society has treated women throughout the years and to be honest, still treats women today.
