Priceless by Miranda Silver

4.5 Stars
For a book with a sex-based theme and categorized as erotica, Priceless had an unexpectedly well developed storyline. It has dark in the title but I don’t personally consider it dark.
What I liked:
*Dual POV
* The heroine wasn’t the typical poor girl working her ass off to make it through college. She was a “normal” girl from a pretty normal background who made some bad choices. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Cinderella story but it’s a common trope and it’s nice to see it done differently.
* The hero isn’t a rich boy with excess money to throw around. He has particular sexual needs and reasons for why he prefers a paid arrangement.
* Their chemistry was fire. They complemented one another so well with regard to what they got out of the arrangement. There’s some mild degradation/humiliation, praise kink, and BDSM. Nothing I found too crazy, but there were some unique scenes.
Christina’s issues stemmed from circumstances that seemed almost mundane compared to some of the set-ups I’ve seen in other books, but it worked. She struggles with being in the shadow of her older sister. She never feels good enough. She wastes her money trying to impress people who aren’t worth impressing.
Patrick on the other hand, is kind of a mysterious character to begin with. Emotionally reserved and a bit cold. He’s in a fraternity but doesn’t seem to fit into a “fraternity” mold. Like Christina, he doesn’t have a super tragic background but it’s clear he has his own struggles due to past events. At heart, he’s a good guy, even if he doesn’t seem to think he is.
When he overhears Christina discussing her dire circumstances on her cell phone, he steps in to make her an offer that will benefit them both. She’s reluctant at first but decides to give it a try.
One of the things I really liked was how Patrick saw through Christina’s façade and wouldn’t let her be fake with him. That drove her to be more honest in other aspects of her life, and she had a good character arc with regard to growth. It was satisfying to see her set aside that fake, people-pleasing persona and get real.
What I didn’t like:
I felt like Patrick could have had more development with his character. We see him start to open himself up more but there were things that could have been tied up better in the end. It felt a bit rushed, which is why I took off half a star. Otherwise, it was great and made me want to check out other books by this author.

“You’re perfect,” he crooned, hypnotic. “You’re such a good little whore. You want me to put a price on the way you come? Or the blush on your skin when I tell you the truth? How cute you are when you cry, because you’re so overwhelmed by the way I fuck you? How much you love it when I hurt you a little? How much I love it when you snarl at me in bed? I can’t. You’re priceless. You were made for me.”When the story starts, Christina is trying to get back on track after a downward spiral. Her bad circumstances were entirely of her own making rather than arising from external issues, which honestly made her a bit less sympathetic as a character in the beginning. She comes across as a bit of a fuckup. She’s in danger of failing out of school due to her own irresponsibility and excessive partying. She’s broke and owes money to her Adderall dealer.
