Frenemies by Emma Hart

4.0

Emma Hart is one of those easy go to authors for me, her books are funny, quick witted, full of heat and humour and help to escape the real word for a bit, and Frenemies was no different to what I’ve come to expect from her.

Immy lives with her eccentric and meddling grandma Jen, who is adamant that it’s time Immy settles down. So, what better timing than for her ex-college fling Mason to coincidently move in next door. Mason now has a daughter, who he co-parents with her mum, and is as shocked as Immy is to see her after all this time. Both think of the other as the one who got away, neither ready to admit their feelings in college, which puts them in this weird frenemies limbo, and they soon resurrect the prank wars from their college days. But now, as adults, thrown back into each other’s lives, and with the help of Jen, can’t hey get their second chance at love together?

I enjoyed the humour of this book, the pranks that Immy and Mason got into with each other were great and brought an extra level of lightness to the story. You could see their feelings clearly from very early on, but the tension between them, alongside their past, meant that neither really knew how to admit them. The pranks helped break the tension though, proved they still knew each other on a certain level, and the proximity of living next door to each opened up the opportunity to learn new things about each other now they were adults. I liked how it grew slowly between them, they didn’t instantly pick up where they left off, but took it cautiously for numerous reasons, Maya being the main one. Overall, this was a very cute easy read romance, and I enjoyed it lots!
