The Road by Cormac McCarthy

5.0

Would recommend: Yes

The Road is definitely one of the best books I have ever read. I went into it with a lot of reservations, what with the hype I'd heard, but it lived up to it. The writing is so finely-wrought and has this strange, other-worldly cadence. I thought the book was really compelling and gripping, and some of the images are still lingering in my mind's eye.

One of the blurb reviews on my copy said something about how, by turning the pages, you kept the characters alive, and I agree. I flew through the novel in just a few days, and I'm almost sorry that I've finished it, even though I feel kind of cold and haunted from it. I never would have even imagined a novel like this, and I wouldn't even say that I LOVE it, but it was really incredible to read.
