The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon
5.0
This book was absolutely amazing.
I am not very good at adequately putting into words how I feel, but I will try.
first;
I did not realize that this book was more of a biographical fiction (meaning most of this is true). Martha Ballard was a real women in the 1780's recording her life, knowledge, experiences, and history in her day book. In a time when most women couldn't read, write, or really do anything other than make babies and tend to their husbands, she fought for women.
second;
Ariel Lawhon did an amazing job at taking a historical diary and puzzle making a cohesive story together. I felt the love and connections of the Ballard family and the people in town. I felt the pain for Ms. Foster and the crimes committed against her. I felt the frustrations of Martha Ballard unable to help in a world ruled by men. This novel is rich in emotion and will leave you with a connection with the history of these characters.
HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend.
I cannot wait to explore more novels from this author.
