Internet Girlfriend by Stephanie Valente
reflective
fast-paced
2.5
I'm a huge fan of Clash Books, and so it's not hard to sell me on any of their releases. A poetry collection called Internet Girlfriend? With that cover? Hell yes! Also, this is a friendly reminder to support indie presses. They're all doing cool shit, and you're missing out.
Internet Girlfriend is tailor made for the girlies who grew up on Tumblr and now know every single one of their friend's astrology charts and cast hex on their exes. There are some great poems scattered throughout, but sometimes I felt that Valente leaned too much on the Y2K Internet imagery/aesthetic. I personally am not an astrology person, so a lot of this missed for me. But that's okay. I have a friend in mind who I think will appreciate these poems more than me.
