Living now in Hawaii for school, I thought I'd learn more about the culture. The idea is good but the execution could use some work. I was surprised that these were so poorly translated even from stories I have learned from my classes here. I think the book had potential but missed the opportunity to take the 19th century texts they referenced and bring in a current story teller from each part of Polynesia to relate the story to us. I liked the art but it was more sparse than I expected and I was quite put out by it. Overall I'm glad I borrowed this book as it is nit the best folk tellings of these stories I have found. Disappointed and a little put out. :(
