She really went there. A fascinating magic system powers the city of Tiran, but there is so much darkness within the magical barrier that protects its citizens from the dangerous world outside. Dark beyond just being a highly religious society build on racism and misogyny, if you can believe it.
If I had to narrow it down, my favorite thing about this book was the main characters. Sciona and Thomil are both complex and perfect foils for each other. Sciona, being a product of this horrible little society, is very frustrating to follow at first, but when she learns what the cost of her privilege is, her very massive ego leads her to taking drastic action, to say the least.. Around the 50% mark, I was absolutely flying through this story because I was compelled to know what was going to happen.
Amazing(ly punchable) characters with arcs that were so satisfying to watch, gorgeous and bingeable writing, and a plot that ramps up into an explosive ending, Blood Over Bright Haven really has it all.
