I’m sorry, why did it take me so long to read Tal Bauer? That was really stupid of me.

I absolutely adored this book. From start to finish, I was hooked on the story, the characters, the writing… everything. This author just has such a beautiful way with words. I will definitely be reading literally everything he writes.

Wes is the sweetest angel. He literally never thinks of himself; he is always putting everyone else’s needs above his own. Watching him struggle with the amount of pressure he was under, the expectations of everyone around him, and his desire for Justin was so heartbreaking. I couldn’t even be mad at him for their small break because he really thought he was doing what was best for everyone else, not himself. And he took an interest in everything Justin loved and made sure to watch his performance, even when they weren’t speaking. Oh, my heart. I love him so much.

Justin was just an all-around fun character to read. He was brutally honest, self-assured and took no shit. I loved the way he stood up for himself when it came to their breakup. And then I loved the way he took care of Wes when he was struggling with everything. And the relationships he formed with Wes’s friends in the end was beautiful. I just love him so much. He and Wes are absolutely perfect for each other. And a shout out to Justin’s dad, Nick, for being the best father in the world. Divorcing your wife for not accepting your gay son is literally the standard. Not to mention threatening football players three times his size for messing with his son’s boyfriend. I adore that man.

The side characters were also so three-dimensional and well-written, especially Wes’s teammates. It was hard to see their initial reaction to Wes being gay, but they all rallied around him in the end in the most heartwarming way.

For a relatively insta-love story, I really enjoyed this. There was still some angst and ups and downs, and definitely some really heartbreaking moments. I felt all the feels. Cannot wait to read more from this author!
