I had been wanting to read this book forever, and when I finally ordered it, it was almost unfortunate I read it in one sitting. I loved it though, but I wished I let it sit and marinate a little longer so that I could really enjoy it. Matt and Grace’s relationship is one of many college romances, one that has unique hobbies and humour, with Matt’s love for photography and grace’s love more music. Their relationship doesn’t start out linear, and when they find their happy medium it’s really a beautiful thing. The idea of before we strangers comes in 15 years later after both of them finish college and leave for the summer. Both assume that the other cut off contact and beyond other unknown circumstances become strangers. Rene creates a powerful dynamic between the two that could be compared to something you’ve read before, or something you’ve never experienced, but want to experience in your own life. The book illustrates many important lessons on life and some other side characters who introduce that the most valuable thing life possesses is time and that it should not be taken for granted.
