I’m still a bit unsure of how I feel about Glory. It’s a political satire, but with some impactful moments, often unexpectedly. The story was told from the perspective of various animals in their home of Jidada (with a da and another da) as they experience traumatic and frustrating political events and corruption.

There were a number of parallels with recent historical events (such as the George Floyd murder and the “I can’t breathe” section of the book), including many that I am probably not even aware of.

I have not yet read animal farm so did not get the nuance which I’m sure was present from these parallels, but it was still a good, impactful book.

We do end on a hopeful note as the corrupt government seem to have been overthrown, following the emotional death of Destiny and the surrender of the defenders. However the corruption seems to run deep and it just leaves you wondering.

It was enjoyable, funny at times, and honestly a little scary.
