The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid

4.0

I loved this!

A novel about two outcasts from different cultures who fall in love and have to fight to save their own people and themselves? Yes please!

The Jewish-inspired folklore and Hungarian-inspired history was deeply immersive and wonderful to read about! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the importance of folktales to the different communities and how the magic system worked differently for each group of people.

I also LOVED the romance!!! Évike and Gáspár were so cute, I loved how sweet Gáspár was!

Évike’s character development was also executed really, really well! I liked how she realised that she didn’t have to choose one part of her identity, she found peace and strength through accepting and acknowledging both her pagan and Yehuli heritage.

The only reason I’m not rating this five stars is because I did feel like the pacing was slightly off in the middle of the book, but ultimately, I loved this novel! An incredible debut!
