The Bed Mate: A Room Mate Novella by Kendall Ryan

3 🌟🌟🌟 - A sweet little contemporary novella

This is a cute novella of best friends becoming lovers. It was nicely written and the paired down focus only on the ‘does he/she like me’ and ‘is it worth risking our friendship’ relationship questions between the protagonists Sam and Maggie worked well.

Best friends since college, Sam knew right from the start he was in love with Maggie, unfortunately she was already in a relationship. Eight years on and numerous short term relationships and one night stands under his belt, the only constant in Sam’s life is Maggie and it’s getting harder to deny his feelings for her. Things come to a head when Maggie splits up with her long term boyfriend after he cheats on her and ends up spending the New Year’s break in Colorado with Sam.

Maggie is beginning to see her best friend Sam in a whole new light, she should be grieving the loss of her relationship, but if she’s really honest with herself these strange feelings and reactions towards Sam have been coming on gradually for a while now. The question is, should she admit how she feels to him and does he feel the same?

All in all it’s a short, but nicely written novella, with an engaging and likeable pair of protagonists. I listened to this on audible and it was narrated well by Jeremy York and Ava Erickson.
