Clock Dance by Anne Tyler
5.0
I loved this book. :) We learn about main character Willa through a few vignettes from her early life that give you a picture of why she is the way she is.
A little lost in her 60s, when Willa is contacted by the neighbor of an ex-girlfriend of her son’s who needs help, she takes on the summons with gusto by traveling cross country to help. There, she makes friends and perhaps finds herself.
I truly enjoyed this character study.
Sometimes the word choice is odd. So odd that it interrupts the flow, especially when dialogue is involved.
Instead of using the term “appetizer,” Willa uses the term “first course.” Since that wasn’t dialogue and the character was in her 60s, i tried to let it pass.
Then a character in her early 30s said “slantwise” instead of “indirect” within dialogue. And a 10 year old said “jeepers.”
