Although I don't keep up with modern games, I know a solid back catalog of old ones, and play Wizard101 enough to easily keep up with this story, exploring the world of Lori's favourite video game, which is a bit of a mash up of popular irl games. I like that while the game didn't exist, I had no issues picturing it.
I felt this was sapphic coded, and while it doesn't specifically state that it is, there's multiple scenes that Queer people will put together and be like, huh. For me this this added a whole extra layer to the story and it really captured that feeling of first love between the gamer girls.
This is a surprisingly scary story, that even had me a bit creeped out in places. Shade Girl and her spider like eggs were incredibly descriptive. However, I did wish that it had a stronger ending. When I just thought the story had hit a good ending point, it then went crazy, and left me with unresolved questions.
