All I Want for Christmas by Maggie Knox
4.0
This was such a roller coaster to read. At first I was rooting for Sadie and Max, then I kinda wished they didn’t pursue a romantic relationship, then I was happy they were together, then I was mad at both of them for their miscommunication (or just lack of communication in general), then I was happy with the ending. The book is made up of one communication issue after another. Not only were they both not being true to themselves, but they constantly were hurting each other whenever they held back any sort of emotion/communication. However, this was a fun book to read! No matter how much I was mad at Sadie and Max for their mistakes, this book keeps you on your toes. It’s predictable, but even so you want to keep reading on and see if Sadie and Max can actually make it work.
I think the one thing I would change in this book is that I wish Max did more groveling. Like he walked away from Sadie so many times, didn’t let her explain herself, was super dense, AND assumed she was okay with Cruz’s affections (even in the beginning) without even talking to her about it and asking if she felt safe/okay???? I’m glad Cruz got what was coming for him, but imo Max should’ve been apologizing so much more. I also wish they had a better conversation about the mistakes made and how they were going to change in the future.
