Voyage of the Damned by Frances White
1.0
This book, just wasn’t it.
Fantastic idea. Poor execution.
The MC is incredibly annoying and the humor is very juvenile. I get that he is suppose to be that way, but there are ways to fit the type without making the reader legitimately cringe.
Most of the “blessed” are adults, I’m talking 20+ but they act like they are all 10-16. I think this book would do worlds better if it was considered a YA book more so than an adult fantasy.
The romance wasn’t believable. I mean hell they fell in love after three days and before that they absolutely hated each other. It’s toxic at best and just comes off insincere. I suppose Ravi and Dee's relationship proved to be more, but it still didn't fell.. amazing.
The overall plot and premise was interesting at first, but after four murders it just felt underwhelming. The living characters weren’t panicking, they weren’t acting like they were trapped on a ship with someone capable of murdering people with super natural powers.. then quite literally just repeated the fact that it was dangerous and then proceeded to play piano alone in the dark. Like what ?
Where is the tension? The drama? The concern I should be feeling for these characters ?
My one positive thought is the level of inclusion in this book. I absolutely love how they effortlessly wove in so much diversity and representation. I wish more books had this.
