The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi

adventurous dark mysterious tense

5.0

My literal first thought when I finished The Last Tale of the Flower Bride was: After The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, I thought I'd never read another perfect book. I guess I was wrong.

Of course, Addie Larue and Flower Bride are perfect in very different ways. Flower Bride creeps under your skin like a splinter, drawing pain at the most unexpected moments. The Last Tale of the Flower Bride is an expertly spun tale, the taut unwinding of the myth of Indigo Maxwell-Casteñada as classic and chilling and otherworldly as you would expect of a story that lives somewhere between a nightmare and a fairytale.

I love Roshani Chokshi’s writing and the true beauty of her prose is on display here. I felt like I was reading the newest addition to our darkest fairytale canon. Chokshi weaves a masterful story. By the end, I couldn’t turn to pages fast enough. I was as hungry for the secrets tucked away in the pages of this book as Bluebeard’s wife was to know what lay behind that smallest door.
