Once again I did absolutely zero research on the books I'm going to read. I had no idea this was a book for young adults, or what it was about, other than I knew it had posh people as a theme. Not just rich but proper, posh, landed gentry, aristocrats. Our protagonist isn't rich, she has won a scholarship to the school because she is clever. Given that we are told there is only one scholarship a year at this school, we can gather that she is very intelligent. At this incredibly old boarding school, there is a bunch of beautiful, snobby aristocrats, who run the school but are horrible to the 'outsiders' who seem to be non-white, new money, poor, basically everyone who is not beautiful, white, and an Earl or whatever.
Here's where the plot gets slightly more unbelievable. Even though these people have been absolutely awful to this girl, when the best looking boy in school invites her away for the weekend to his stately home, she accepts the invitation, thinking that they're going to welcome her into the group. No one who has every been bullied would surely fall for this? The first thing I would think was they're going to lock me in some dungeon in this massive house and that is the best case scenario in my head.
Anyway I won't reveal any spoilers but you don't need massive insight to see that it all goes tits up. The plot takes a massive nosedive for the absurd and some absolutely terrible decisions are made. Even with all this nonsense though, I did like it. I liked the main character and the other 'savages' and I wanted to know what was going to happen. I probably will read the rest of the series, or at least the next one anyway.
