The Family Remains is the sequel to The Family Upstairs, so keep that in mind if you're continuing to read my review. 
I was not sure what to expect but I was very pleased with the sequel. You have several different POVs and timelines which I always enjoy! I really enjoyed Rachel's part of the story and getting to see more of Michael was very interesting. Her ending felt very rewarding and good. It was also nice to see Lucy, Henry and Libby again. I wish I would have seen a little more of Libby's everyday life though. Samuel's chapters were good and I wanted to know more! 
The book had the perfect mix of past and present and the different POVs happening at the same time.
