Utter literary perfection!

Journalist Smita is called to her home country of India to fill in for her journalist colleague and friend Shannon when Shannon goes into the hospital. Merely thinking she's "filling in," Smita is pulled into reporting on a court case awaiting the decision. Meena's Muslim husband Abdul was killed by Meena's two brothers and Meena was critically injured. With the help of a pro bono attorney, she is trying to use the court system to keep her brothers accountable for their actions. Smita is pulled into the case, and Shannon's friend Mohan helps her navigate the country she has been away from for decades.

This book is soooo good with all of the various issues brought up: racism, what "honor" truly is, confronting your past, how you can learn from the strength of others as well as learning about India.

Perfection with characters, plot. It's just perfection.
