Kate Chopin has been quite the discovery. While The Awakening certainly appealed to me, it was her short stories that truly grabbed my attention. She was a formidable writer, who wrote both well and with earnestness, and that is more than what most writers need in my eyes.

Most will see here little more than an early venture into feminist writing, but for me it was love at first sight.
