While not as strong as its predecessors, this was nonetheless a fitting conclusion to the trilogy. The story follows Fianne, the granddaughter of an evil sorceress, and a child of Sevenwaters. Dianne’s journey doesn’t quite as closely mirror the stories of the previous books, but we still get the general theme of a duty to family and a longing for love.
I didn’t like Fianne as much as I liked Sorcha or Liadan. Perhaps that was by design, as she is somewhat of a “villain” (unwilling, but does bad things regardless) for part of the story. Still, I didn’t find her destiny or her love story as compelling as those that came before. Despite that, I do think that the “prophecy” and driving force behind the plot came to a satisfying conclusion, and couldn’t think of a better ending if I tried. Fantastic little fantasy series, with a perfect amount of love and longing and devotion.
