This is an unusual work – transcripts of artist-investigator Lawrence Abu Hamdan's various performance lectures detailing his work within and beyond Forensic Architecture, as well as an index that I think was composed primarily as written text. The slight distance between this text and most of the actual works described is fruitful in allowing the artist to determine his own distance from the rigour of the initial project or investigation, and to attend to narrative and feeling around them. They may serve for many as a template for a style of non-fiction writing that is deeply felt and deeply researched, inviting and generous and gentle in handling often brutal facts; one that draws lines between symbols and facts in our era and demonstrates their fluctuating power in relation to one another. I really enjoyed this a lot and read it much more quickly than I had expected I might.
