Such a moving story with great main character Francie. She has a hard life but doesn't let it get to her. Her spirit persists. She is one of those thoughtful girls that you would want to be friends with. I wish the story gave us a peek into the path she took after she went off to college.

This story isn't for everyone. There's not a whole lot of plot, there's a lot of character nuances, there's a lot of things you can take from the story or choose to ignore.
