3.5

Considering the absolute only reason I knew who King Midas was before opening this book was because I grew up watching Aladdin and the King of Thieves, I’d say this went better than expected.

If you like ACOTAR, you need to read this series. TRUST ME. JUST TRUST ME. LISTEN. TRUST. ME. I can’t really explain any further. You’re just going to know why while you’re reading it. You’ll get it.

If you haven’t read ACOTAR, but love fantasy romance books with lovable grumpy characters, badass magic, despicable villains galore, and a female MC who’s unknowingly about to head out on a really bitchin’ journey, READ THIS. You’ll like it. And you’ll really, REALLY like the books that follow. 😈

Just make sure you check the trigger warnings first. I’m going to spoil the biggest TW below in a detailed manner, so stop reading now if you don’t want to know.

*TW (SA) spoilers about LITERALLY EXACTLY where and who the SA happens to in the book so you don’t have to read with a clenched jaw and nausea—King Fulke will touch the MC, Auren, non-consensually, but thankfully is thwarted before he has the opportunity to go further. There is an explicit rape scene at the end of the book committed by pirate Captain Fane. He touches Auren in a non-consensual manner, takes her and a character named Rissa to his quarters, and then rapes Rissa while Auren is forced to watch. It is brutal, so be careful. Skip it if you need to. You’ll be able to easily piece together what happens if you skip it entirely. Please do what’s healthiest for you and your current headspace. ♥️
