Fear the Flames by Olivia Rose Darling
2.0
I was so hyped for this book but it turned into a massive disappointment.
I was promised dragons, they make exactly one appearance at the 85% mark. Both main characters feel like they’re barely 17 yet you want to tell me he’s 27?? The Commander Xaden, oh I mean Cayden, is meant to be this brutal warrior who’s coming to an agreement with the FMC Elowen, an allies to lovers situation. Why is he literally lusting after her since the first time they met? He keeps in calling her love, princess, little shadow or angel in every single sentence!! It was not cute and so on the nose that I wasn’t even rooting for them…
The premise of the book was intriguing but it dragged on for ages, nothing happened for a solid 30% of the book and I was bored. There’s never any real danger or conflict, and you want to tell me the big thing at the end is the fact that they have to get married to save the kingdom/country? After they confessed that they want to be together? Oh no… how terrible. And he even plotted this potential marriage early on and it doesn’t even matter to her at the end
