Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I feel awful that we didn't finish this one. I loved this book - and the entire series - when I was younger. But from the first chapter, over six weeks ago, I knew this one was going to draaag. I didn't remember the in-depth detail about building a smokehouse, or slaughtering pigs, or storing meat. I tried my best to make it exciting for my boys, I even brought up pictures on the internet so they could try to visualize a log cabin, a smokehouse, etc. But they were just too young. At 4/5, they don't have the world knowledge to understand this book, and it isn't written in a way to grab their attention. I fully intend to try again when they are older. But for now it's going on a shelf and we'll get back to things they are excited to read.
