Midnight, Repeated by Dani McLean
This was so lovely and I can't wait to read the rest of the novellas in this series as they come out! I love a time loop (big Groundhog Day fan here) and really liked how the FMC felt lost and wasn't sure where her life was going--relatable content. The pining was real, the steam was great when we got there, and this felt like a complete story, which isn't always true of a novella. Would I read more of their story? Absolutely. But do I need to because it felt too quick or unfinished? Nope.
Reread a year later, on the one year pub date anniversary: I knew that I loved this novella and it had started the series strong, and this was the first thing I read by Dani. But I hadn't read it since then so I knew there were a lot of details I wouldn't remember (thanks brain fog). IT IS SO SO GOOD! Still love a time loop, but I had forgotten how many times she repeats the day over again and oh my word, I really felt for her. At other times in the beginning I wanted to look her in the eye and say "the boy loves you!" because it was obvious to me but she wasn't at the point where she understood yet. So lovely! Excited to keep reading the series again!
Reread 2025: I love this novella so much! It starts out the series so well but is also just great on its own. It's a time loop story, which I love (Groundhog's Day is a low key fave movie of mine), and it's friends to lovers with mutual pining, which I also love. It's all from Lauree's POV as she's stuck in a loop on Dec 31, always starting the day over once she hits midnight, but it's clear early on that Max has feelings for her too. This is quite possibly my favorite book of Dani's, and now I'm excited to reread the rest of the series again as well.
