Scent of a Mate by Milly Taiden

2.0

I was really looking forward to reading Scent of a Mate based on all the positive reviews and the blurb, but I ended up disappointed.
The story idea had so much potential but it fell flat. There wasn’t much development to the storyline or the characters.
I didn’t get much of an impression of the hero, Aric, at all. He didn’t really come across as a leading man, or an alpha hero. He just seemed to keep saying “mine” and “safe” when it came to the heroine Jordan.
I didn’t even like Jordan much either. She seemed to keep switching between being an opinionated, sassy woman to a stupid, insecure girl who kept getting into dangerous situations.
And don’t get me started on those dangerous situations. The first attack on Jordan I understood. I thought the plot there could have been stretched out a bit more, really gotten into why the person tried to kill her, but no. After surviving that attack, Jordan is attacked 2 more times before the book is complete! I just didn’t get it. It was all a bit too much. I thought maybe at the end of the book the 3 attacks would somehow link together but they didn’t.
And while I love a good erotica novel, this book wasn’t one of them. The sex took over the storyline to the point that I was skipping over these parts of the book.
The writing style was another issue I also had with this book. I found it to be quite simple, almost a little juvenile. There were grammar errors, including missing words in sentences and incorrect words being used. I kind of felt like a teenager wrote the story.
Overall I thought this was an alright book. But I don’t think I’ll read the next book in the series, especially if that book to ends at 78% on my kindle!
