This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate by Naomi Klein

informative reflective tense slow-paced

4.25

This book is very well researched with a wide example of issues, counter issues, politics, and cultural responses to climate change.  I think it is great that Naomi is as critical of green movements and their poor choices as well as big coal/oil/gas companies.  I enjoyed how she shared the complexities of the issue and acknowledged that there are no simple solutions.  She went into depth about the power, agency, and history of native land being used to legally stop more dirty extraction.  She also discusses the lack of fairness/future exploitation of demanding natives not allowing extraction on their lands.  However, I think the book will only appeal to people who already agree with the author, it does not do well in convincing people to support change and re-distribution of wealth or stopping resource extraction.  She is quite dismissive of people who don't already agree with her.  It is very much a more in-depth exploration of the political and global complexities of climate change than a book to convince skeptics to change their mindsets.
