Atmospheric and beautifully written, with an intriguing premise tackling slavery and intergenerational trauma. However, I did gradually lose interest at about the midway point, which is not the book's fault necessarily, just a matter of preference. This is a great introduction to literary fantasy however and is well worth discussing with other readers.
