A Sicilian Romance by Ann Radcliffe
3.0
It was fine. The twists were fun and shocking, but the wordiness and extremely long sentences made this a difficult read. I loved the setting (specifically the Mazzini castle), and I loved Julia, Hippolitus, and Ferdinand! The commentary about sensibility not being the defining trait of women was enjoyable, particularly when looking at the cultural context of Radcliffe’s era.
It was definitely a drag though, and if I didn't have to read it for my uni class on Gothic literature, I probably wouldn't have finished this.
