Another read where I was drawn in immediately and couldn’t stop listening. I loved the concept of the book and the characters too. The different perspectives throughout, and the development of relationships over a lifetime through work, success, tragedy. There was just so much to love about the book.
Above all, you could really feel the passion for gaming in the book. It actually made me pick up my Switch for the first time in months and play some Mario, and it’s writing reminded me why we love games so much, why I love games so much. I would be so surprised if Zevin isn’t a gamer, I don’t think you could write like that without a very long history with games yourself.
We see how focuses and priorities change as life progresses, and the impact of life events, both positive and horribly tragic, delving into how people cope in their individual ways. It really is a story over a lifetime, and one that I fell in love with. I really, really do recommend you pick this up if you get the chance.
