The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta
5.0
Here we have a drag origin story. We meet our main character Michael, a mixed-race Londoner who just doesn't feel enough. Not black enough, not Jamaican enough, not crypiot enough. He has a mom who is supportive even if she misses the mark at times. A friend throughout schooling that is not without faults. A younger half-sister who loves him just as he is. But will he ever see that he is enough in his own eyes?
I enjoyed reading through this book. Read this book on my own the first time and for the second time it was as a book club read. Mike really gets into seeing that he has to just be himself and not what the "enough of" idea is. A good prose poetry book.
