Lorena Escoto Germán offers in Textured Teaching a challenge to educators to evolve our pedagogy. One of the central theses of Germán's work is that teaching is social justice work. Building on Culturally Sustaining Practice, Textured Teaching is a comprehensive but accessible guide to applying antiracism in the classroom.
For teachers who can do so, I recommend this book as a tool for school- or faculty-wide professional development. If you are in a school where this kind of corporate antiracism work is unlikely to occur, the next best thing is, of course, to work through the text yourself. Best of luck to you, keep doing good work!
Even beyond Textured Teaching's relevant and evidence-based content, its design is gorgeous, and I look forward to picking up a hardcopy for my desk!
