Rising Sun by Michael Crichton
I read this when I was a teenager because I was reading a bunch of Crichton's work after loving Jurassic Park. I found it so interesting at the time, though when I went back as an adult the racism of the story jumped out as parts that I didn't notice when I first read it. I probably wouldn't recommend this, but I've definitely been looking for something a bit like it when it comes to the story's mystery that ties corporate interests, cultural differences, and murder all together. But with, you know, less racism and more nuance.
