2024 second chance (re)read for the Read Your Bookshelf challenge
Lmfao the way this book still managed to get a 3 ⭐️ from is kinda baffling but after the writing/plot going roundabout for nearly 50% of the length of this book, stuff started happening and I finally (!) got into it. Daphne (more like Daft-ne) was a dumbass hoe and I don't feel bad at all for her stupid ass. In fact, if she had not ended up in jail I would've been so mad at this author. Tbh, Autumn took too long to figure it out but I can't blame the girl she's mentally ill. I'm glad Autumn snitched on Daphne, good for her in spite of everything . I do feel kinda sorry for the kids bc being raised by Graham is so unfair! Poor babies deserved better. Tbh, they deserved someone like Autumn fr fr lmao. Seriously, she was genuinely sweet with them and though at first I was thinking it would've been more fun if there had been more antagonism from the kids towards her, like them sensing something off with her, now I like that even briefly Autumn was loved. (Fůck Ben, actually.) Bc yeah, Autumn is a mess but compared to Daphne and everyone else in this cast of characters, she is leagues easier to warm up to. So yeah, not among my greatest read but also not bad in the end so I'm kinda glad I gave it a second chance, with aggravating beginning all.
2021 DNF
It's not actually a bad book, it has a great start but I lost interest reading those three Daphne chapters. She exasperated me too much. Also I skipped to the ending chapters and saw I guessed the plot twist correctly which is funny bc I'm notoriously bad at guessing twists and am easily amazed by them in most books so I don't know what this says about me or the book lol. I do kinda feel bad for “Autumn” and would have wanted to go through the journey of her characterization but i feel it's not worth reading 330 plus pages for it. Still, I'm actually sad to dnf bc if I had tried harder or had been in the headspace to give all my focus on this book I think I would have enjoyed it a lot
